Longroño - Day Two
Today I visited a couple of churches, the 15th century Cathedral de Santa María de Redondo with its superb twin towers and the 13th century Iglesia de San Bartolomé, which had a stunning, colonnaded portico. Next stop was the fabulous Museum of La Rioja, which was located in a former 18th century palace with a central tower. As well as taking one through the history and culture of La Rioja it had a wonderful collection of artifacts from the prehistoric age and the Roman era. In the evening I joined in with the noisy festivities of San Mateo. Various mini brass bands representing local wine districts would parade up and down the cobbled lanes and it was fun to wander around tasting tapas and enjoying a glass of vino. Tomorrow I take the bus to Zaragoza.
